Prayer Life
Duane Vander Klok
Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; 7 and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
Philippians 4:6-7
Prayer and time spent with God renews your thoughts and heart. Daily life on earth comes with plenty of anxieties, disappointment, and disconnection, but that is not how God wants you to go through life! His Word tells us to bring all of these daily worries to Him so that He can give you His peace.
Too often we think that prayer is just reciting a few lines from a devotional book or listing your needs to God, but it is so much more than that! Prayer is conversation between you and God – it is a life and relationship with Him. You can spend time talking to Him each day sharing your thoughts and desires and receiving comfort, direction, and encouragement from Him. You are the bride of Christ, and designed for an intimate relationship. You wouldn’t get married to your spouse and only recite the same conversation again and again with them before you went to bed at night! Your spouse wants to communicate with you throughout the day as does Jesus. He stands at the door and knocks waiting for you to open it and invite Him into your life.
A great prayer life is built when both your mind and heart are engaged. You speak to Him from your heart and then listen to what He has to say in return. You cannot know His will or follow His lead when you do not stop to hear what He is saying! How would your life change if you made time to engage with Jesus every day?
