Who’s Knocking?
Duane Vander Klok
Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me.
Revelation 3:20
Both God and the devil want access to your life, but you are the doorkeeper. You decide who you let in, and who to keep out.
The enemy comes only to kill, steal, and destroy. Picture him standing outside, knocking on your door armed and ready to desolate your life. Unfortunately, he is not always so recognizable. He may come dressed as a worldly pleasure, temptation, or bad habit. He will use any means necessary to get a foothold in your life.
What opens the door to the enemy? There are many ways to let him in, and some are overt like witchcraft or satanic sacrifices. But the Bible tells us some of the less obvious ways that the enemy sneaks into your life. Ephesians 4:26-27 says, “Be angry, and do not sin”: do not let the sun go down on your wrath, nor give place to the devil. Anger and unforgiveness can open the door to the devil to give him a foothold and even full access to your heart.
We know that the enemy’s only plan is to bring destruction in your life, so how can you guard against him? Keeping the door closed to the enemy is an active and ongoing role. James 4:7 says, Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. He will only flee if you resist him, and you can only resist when you recognize his tactics. Guard and prepare your heart with the Word of God so that you may recognize him and fight back!
As you turn away from the plotting and destruction that the enemy brings, know that God is knocking on another door to your heart. James 1:17 says, Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning. God wants to bring you freedom, healing, breakthrough, and purpose! But He will not barge in, He waits for you to open the door. Invite Him into the areas of your life that you have kept hidden, secret, or protected, and know that He is on the other side of that door waiting to pour good gifts into your life.
