Seek First
Duane Vander Klok
But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.
Matthew 6:33
You were created to be in relationship with your Heavenly Father. So many people do not recognize this deep need, and try to fill the void in their hearts with other things. The world will offer you many options, but none of these things can fill the place in your heart that was meant only for God.
The world will tell you that education, accomplishments, relationships, money, or even power will satisfy you. The enemy wants you to believe that education leads to enlightenment, success is fulfilling, or that money equals stability, but only God can truly offer wisdom, purpose, and security. He promises that when you seek Him first, He will take care of the rest. Matthew 6:34 says, Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble. Unlike the offers of the world, you can trust in the promises of God.
What does it look like to seek first His Kingdom? In Mark 12:30-31, Jesus says, “And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.” This is the first commandment. And the second, like it, is this: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” There is no other commandment greater than these. As you pursue and love God with all your heart, He will lead and direct you in all things. There may be priorities in your life that you need to reorder. Ask God to show you how to pursue Him each day!
