Jesus, Our High Priest
Duane Vander Klok
For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin. – Hebrews 4:15
In Old Testament times, the high priest would enter the Most Holy Place once a year with a blood sacrifice for the people’s sins. Today, Jesus is our high priest in heaven, and He represents us before God. Instead of offering an animal sacrifice year after year, He offered Himself once and for all. The blood He shed was enough to cover every sin—past, present, and future! That means believers do not have to live in guilt or fear. We can come boldly to God, knowing that Jesus already paid the price for our sins.
What makes this even better is that Jesus really understands us. Although He never sinned, He knows what it is like to be tempted, rejected, hurt, and betrayed. Because of that, He can intercede for us with both power and compassion. He is not a distant Savior watching us from afar—He is right there, standing in the gap for us.
Hebrews 4:16 says, “Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.” This means that whatever you’re facing, you don’t have to go through it alone. There is grace for your fears, grace for your struggles, grace for every need you have—and mercy when you fail.
So do not hesitate to take your burdens, your failures, your pain or worries to Jesus. He already knows what is going on, and He is both ready and able to help. His mercy covers your past, and His grace gives you strength for today. He has you covered!
