Deception, Distractions, & Destiny
Duane Vander Klok
Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. -1 Peter 5:8
There is a huge difference between God’s plan for your life and the devil’s plan. According to John 10:10, Jesus came to give you a full and abundant life. The devil, however, wants to keep you from God’s plan by stealing your joy, killing your dreams and destroying your destiny. His goal is to do whatever he can to deceive or distract you so that you focus only on earthly, temporary things. The good news is, you get to choose whose plan you follow.
The devil’s tactics are often subtle—he uses things that seem insignificant at first but gradually pull you away from God’s path and purpose. For instance, Jesus’ parable of the sower in Mark 4:19 demonstrates how the cares of this world, the deceitfulness of riches, and the desire for other things can enter in and choke God’s Word, making it unfruitful in your life. These distractions can even come in the form of good things that, if not kept in proper perspective, lead you away from God’s will.
To counter these tactics and protect your destiny, it is essential to maintain an intentional focus on God. As you pray, study, and apply His Word, you will make conscious decisions that keep you walking in His plan. By doing so, you will resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
Remember this: your destiny is not just about where you end up. It is about what you experience along the path of your life as you grow in faith, character, and your relationship with God. As you resist the enemy, you will not only reach your destiny—you will also experience the abundant life that Jesus promised.
