“Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.” Matthew 5:16
In a world often clouded by darkness, these words spoken by Jesus serve to remind us of our role as believers. We are called to let our light shine brightly, not to draw attention to ourselves, but to bring glory to our Father in heaven.
An important key to letting our light shine is through our actions. People – our children, neighbors, coworkers and those we come into contact with – should be able to see the difference Jesus makes in our lives through our kindness, compassion, and love for others. You were made to shine!
In the busyness of life, you may need to remind yourself to slow down to truly notice people and become more mindful of what is going on around you. Whether you’re at home, at work, or simply going about your daily routine, ask God to help you see those who might benefit from a smile, a kind word or an act of generosity. These seemingly small things can make a big impact on someone’s day – and possibly even change their life!
Your actions can make people curious and open doors for conversations about your faith, so be prepared. Your testimony – the true story of how inviting Jesus to be your Savior and Lord has changed your life – doesn’t need to be eloquent; it simply needs to tell how God has been working in your life. Your story can connect with people in a way that sermons and teachings might not. It’s real, relatable, and can lead them to think about how Jesus can make a difference in their life, too.
Don’t underestimate the power of your actions and your testimony. You can be the light someone needs to find their way to God!
