Building Relationship

Duane Vander Klok

“But very truly I tell you, it is for your good that I am going away. Unless I go away, the Advocate will not come to you; but if I go, I will send Him to you.” John 16:7

The Holy Spirit is described in many ways: the Comforter, the Counselor, the Helper, the Advocate, the Intercessor, the Strengthener, and the Standby. When Jesus ascended to Heaven, He fulfilled His promise to send the Holy Spirit to be in close relationship and fellowship with all Believers. This is true for the Disciples then, and it is still true for you and me today. Let me ask you this, do you live in a relationship and fellowship with the Holy Spirit?

You see, there is an Enemy that is doing everything in his power to convince you that the Holy Spirit is not real and is not moving in the lives of Believers today. The truth is, however, that the Holy Spirit is present and alive within all Believers when we ask Jesus Christ into your life; but there is a difference between ‘presence’ and ‘relationship.’

No matter what, the Holy Spirit is ‘present’ in the lives of all Believers, but not all Believers live in ‘relationship’ and access the full potential and power of that relationship. You see, to live in an active relationship takes work and effort on our part to creates a space for His movement to occur. The Holy Spirit is not a genie who magically appears and grants any wish at any moment. Instead, an active relationship requires work, pursuit, and persistence from us. When we pause and ask, “Holy Spirit, lead, guide, speak, I am listening,” not just in times of trouble, but at all times, it creates a space and aligns us with His heart, His wisdom, and His power.

This week let’s pursue not just His ‘presence,’ but an active ‘relationship’ with Him. Let’s pause, create space, and invite Him to move in our lives.
