Taking Authority

Duane Vander Klok

“For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.” Ephesians 6:12

Our world isn’t just comprised of the physical and natural environment that we can interact with through our five senses, but also a spiritual realm that exists all around us. It is not something that we can necessarily experience with our senses, but it is there. Many times when we think about the spiritual realm, we only think of Heaven and Hell. We think they are places that we only interact with, or that can interact with us, after our physical death.

The problem is that the spiritual realm is just as active and interactive in our lives as the physical realm. There are powers and principalities in the spiritual realm that are doing everything in their power to distract us and take us off of the path leading to God. It is a place where a very real spiritual battle rages.

As Believers, we are not bystanders that have zero control over the spiritual realm. We have the ability to pray against these powers and principalities working against us and anyone around us. We have the ability to take authority over these forces, and we are able to speak truth and life into every situation we may face. In the name of Jesus Christ, Scripture calls us to put on the full armor of God and step into the authority that He has given to us.

This week, let’s pray against the powers and principalities coming against us in the name of Jesus.
